On March 18, CERN announced the launch of a new Technology Impact Fund. The creation of the Fund is intended to bridge the gap between the technologies developed for scientific research at CERN and their application to solve the problems of society.

The first technology selected as part of the launch of CERN's new Technology Impact Fund is the Compact Precision Laser Inclinometer (CPLI or CPLI), developed by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and CERN to measure the vibrations of the Earth's surface around the ATLAS detector at CERN.
